What I Want for the New Year

There is a short essay entitled - ''What I want for Christmas.''
A father takes his four children to visit Santa. Each child made his request. Then Santa asked the father - ''And what do you want for Christmas?'' His reply? ''A fortune!''

I have thought about six things I want - not for Christmas - but for the new year.

I. GOD'S PROTECTION

The person who surrenders his life to the Lord does not live accidently. We must be people who have faith enough to accept whatever God designs.

Romans 8:28 ''And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.''

If that verse is true - which it is - then the Lord Jesus designs everything that comes into my life.

The poet was right who said,

My life is but a weaving
Between my Lord and me
I cannot choose the colors,
He worketh steadily

Oftimes He weaveth sorrow,
And I in foolish pride
Forget He sees the upper,
And I the underside.

Not till the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly
Shall God unroll the canvas
And explain the reason why.

The dark threads are as needful
In the weaver's skillful hand
As the threads of gold and siIver
In the pattern He has planned.

There was a farmer who cut down some trees and brush and stacked the limbs in a large pile to be burned after they had dried out. One morning when he noticed a bird building a nest in the brush pile, he took his hands and destroyed the nest. He had to do this three times. Finally, the discouraged bird moved and began building its nest in a tree near the house. Several weeks later - when the little eggs had hatched, and the wee birds were in the nest chirping - the farmer set fire to the brush pile. He knew what his plan was and, not wanting the birds to be burned, he interrupted the little bird's plan for its own good.

How often God interrupts our plans! And though we don't ...
