Luke 8:1-56
1 And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him,
Once again, just a reminder that Jesus’ emphasis was on PREACHING and TEACHING in every city and village. This priority never changed and never diminished in Jesus’ entire ministry. We need to be re-reminded of that fact again and again and then see how is it remotely possible that we can ignore the clear example of Jesus and then amuse ourselves that we are following His example. Let’s go back beginning at Luke 4:42-44.
Luke 4:42-44
42 And when it was day, he departed and went into a desert place: and the people sought him, and came unto him, and stayed him, that he should not depart from them.
43 And he said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent.
He wanted to continue to go beyond Capernaum and preach because the gospel of the kingdom needed to go beyond that city. Notice that Jesus told His disciples why He came. One reason was to preach the gospel of the kingdom.
44 And he preached in the synagogues of Galilee.
So what did Jesus do while He was in the synagogues in Galilee? He went about throughout all of Galilee, teaching. His teaching was so powerful, so UNLIKE the teachers of His day, that it astonished the listeners.
Matthew 4:23
And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
So what did Jesus do while He was in Galilee? He went about throughout all of Galilee, teaching. Meaning, He imparted instruction or instilled doctrine to the people and please keep in mind that this instruction was to be obeyed. Jesus was not the run-of-the-mill teacher, nor were His Apostles.
