Luke Chapter 10 (10 of 24)
Series: Luke

Luke 10
1 After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.
After the first calling or sending of the 12, Jesus appointed or elected 70 other men; different from the 12 He originally sent. Jesus sent them to a very similar mission as He did for the 12. He also gave the 70 the same power as He did the 12 to do the same work. He sent them by pairs. Some debate whether the timing of this sending of the 70 was at the same time as the sending of the 12, seeing that the instruction is similar to those given in Mark 6. But there is no reason why there could not have been a second sending. The verse does state that this second sending happened after these things in chapter 9. He also sent the 70 to the places where He would come in the future. Their mission was also to preach the coming of the Messiah. The hearers were to be ready to receive the coming of the Messiah.

But additional laborers were necessary to complete the harvest. The harvests of souls are prepared by the Lord of the harvest. Jesus told His disciples to pray to the Lord of the harvest that He would send forth workers into His harvest. We must not only be prepared to ask the Lord to produce and to ...
