1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.

The first day of the week is Sunday. Why is that important? First, the Sabbath is Saturday, not Sunday, as so many people are misled to believe. Here is the clear proof;

Mark 16:1
And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.

Second, for some strange reason that defies logic, so many people believe that either the Sabbath was and is Sunday, or that the Sabbath, somehow and unexplained, just “changed” to Sunday. The Sabbath was, and still is Saturday.

Third, they say that the Sabbath still applies to the church and that we are to rest on the Sabbath. Unfortunately for those who believe this, the truth is that the Sabbath was for Israel and never applied to the church at all. Also of note is the fact that Jesus and His finished redemptive work, according to the NT book of Hebrews, brings us into HIS rest. In other words, Jesus is our Sabbath rest. We are to rest in HIM and not get all caught up in days, weeks, months, feast days, new moos or Sabbath days. This is what the NT teaches and this is the clear instruction to the church age.

The sun was just rising early Sunday morning. You may ask why did Mary and others, come to the tomb? According to other gospel accounts, she, and other women that came with her, came to anoint the body of Jesus with spices. They came to embalm him, or apply these spices to His body to keep it from putrefaction. As painful as it was, this is proof that they did not suppose He would rise again; ...
