Genesis 4

1 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.

The word knew in this verse speaks of a sexual union between Adam and Eve. Some commentators believe that when Cain was born that Eve was under the impression that he was the redeemer, based on Genesis 3:15. But we will soon see that he was anything but a redeemer, but he was a murderer.
