Genesis 8

1 And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters asswaged;
2 The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained;
3 And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated.

God did not forget Noah. I like the beauty of this language in these first three words - God remembered Noah. The whole race of mankind, except Noah and his family, was now extinguished, and gone into the land of forgetfulness, so that God's remembering Noah was the return of his mercy to mankind.

God made a wind to pass over the Earth and the waters began to subside. The subterranean waters, the waters from the vapor canopy and probably lighter rains, distinct from the 40 days and night of rains, all stopped. Now remember that these events continued for a period of 150 days. We now see a gradual reduction of the floodwaters from the Earth by the hand of God.
