1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
There are 2 astonishing truths that we will learn in Scripture from the example of Abram about what genuine faith in God does, not says. We will learn that faith obeys God and that obedience to God is the fruit of faith. What God told Abram to do in verse 1 was not a suggestion, option, multiple choices or an opinion of God, nor did Abram respond to what God said as such. Rather, he understood what God said as a command—a command that needed to be obeyed.
With that in mind let’s look at this first verse.
1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
God told Abram 2 things:
1. Get out of your country: Get out of your country: Get out of that sin-infested land you live in. Get out of that place of idolatry that you grew up in. Get out of your sin. God called Abram out of sin. We hear so much nonsense today about what salvation is and how little of how it affects the life. I’m here to tell you that the Scriptures teach that God calls a people out from sin, not to sin, and Abram was called out of this life, which he was accustomed to.
2. Cut those family ties that bind you to your sin: It is probable that Abram was obedient and dependent upon his father. There would be no indication in Scripture that he had any problems with his father. It would appear that he was close to his relatives. We see this in his pleading for Lot while he was in Sodom and Gomorrah. God not only calls a man from family ties but also He calls them to loyalty to Him first.
