This is a beautiful chapter in that it shows the story of Abram going back to God. Abram learned some valuable lessons in Egypt about the sin of lying and the sin of not waiting on the leading of God before doing anything or going anyplace. There are indeed rich lessons that we can learn and apply in our lives and be enriched with the wisdom of God.

1 And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south.
2 And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.
3 And he went on his journeys from the south even to Bethel, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Hai;
4 Unto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of the LORD.

We can entitle this section, Back to Bethel. The word Bethel means: The house of God. This is the place where Abram belonged because it was the place where he worshipped God. It will also be the place where God would speak to him after Lot is out of his hair.

• Lot was a continual thorn in Abram’s life and God wanted him out of the way.

Abram, after his experience in Egypt, goes back to the place where he worshipped God, back to the place where God was in fellowship with him, back to the place where he could get direction from God. How about you and how about me today?

• Feeling the need to lie and cheat your way through life in unbelief?

• Have you left the place where you once spent valuable time and fellowship with God, the sweetness of communion with Jesus Christ?

• Have you ran to Egypt because things looked a little bleak in Bethel and you thought that you knew what you were doing?

You told all of your friends that God led you to your Egypt when you knew all along that you moved on your own emotions or feelings or whim, or unbelief, ...
