1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,

On account of what was previously written concerning the spiritual condition of the hearers, (dull of hearing) we need to make a once for all departure from the dead works of Judaism and make a full commitment to salvation through Christ Jesus. Having abandoned, once for all, the elementary teachings of the Messiah, let us go on to perfection. The act of abandoning Judaism was the pre-requisite to that of going on. As long as these Jews continued to cling to any vestige of Judaism and the Mosaic law, they would not move on to salvation through Christ and maturity. This is very true of many today. They are presented with the life changing message of Christ. They see the complete and absolute nature of salvation presented in the scriptures. They see others who are free in Christ. They are encouraged to follow Christ in salvation and to grow to spiritual maturity, but their religious bag and baggage, their tradition that they cling to so tenaciously, their religious friends and family members adds even more pressure to stay stagnant, unmoved towards Christ. Little do they realize that no matter how much truth they may sit under and hear with their ears, until they leave FOREVER, the religious bag and baggage and embrace salvation in Christ, there is no way on the planet that growth will ever take place. What will take place is being dull of hearing. The act of abandoning “whatever” is the pre-requisite to that of going on. By the way, the word, leaving, is a command. A refusal to leave Judaism was SIN. Any refusal to abandon religious bag and baggage today to come to Christ, is SIN!
