1 Now of the things which we have spoken [this is] the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;

Of the things we have spoken about in the previous portions of the epistle, here is the main point of it all. The High Priest we have described, we are in union with Him. He is in Heaven, appointed to sit on God's right hand, the place of honor and authority, on a shared throne with the Majestic God of the Heavens. This is our heavenly, powerful, eternal High Priest. This epistle spends a great amount of time revealing all that describes Christ Jesus and His high priestly ministry to the readers. Without question his readers had a complete knowledge of the Levitical system, all of the sacrificial requirements and the temple itself and what went on there and why. He did that to show the greater work that Christ brought in His sacrifice, His high priestly ministry, and that His work was far superior to all of what they understood regarding the Mosaic system.

2 A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.

Christ serves in the heavenly sanctuary, which is the real tabernacle of which the earthly was only a shadow. The genuine tabernacle of God is in Heaven, which the Lord set up and not man. There is a tremendous contrast here concerning both tabernacles and needless to say, it behooves us to look at them and recognize again the superiority of and the contrast of everything to Christ Jesus.

• The Levitical priesthood served in a tabernacle that WAS: Earthly, temporal, human, external and a shadow of the true. There was nothing that was permanent that was a part of the design of the earthly tabernacle. It was always going to be temporary.
