Exodus 20:13
I hope you already have your Bibles open to Exodus, Chapter Number 20. In
studying the life of Moses, we have paused these weeks to look at the
Decalogue, the Ten Commandments, the foundation principles of life, So I
trust you've been following along. This morning we consider the sixth com-
mandment, and I'm reading in the American ... New American Standard Version,
because I think it's much clearer than the traditional King James. One
verse, Exodus 20, Verse 13, reads:
Vou shaU not muAdeA.
The very familiar King James, "Thou shalt not kill." Let's pray together.
"Father, we pause today before this brief principle that helps form the
very foundation fabric of living. We ask for Your insight and Your direction
as we consider this germ of fundamental truth. Lord, You speak. Let me
get out of the way so that Thy word and Thy holy and divine message might
not only be heard - we've heard a lot of semons - but may it be received
and understood and incorporated into our life-styles. For we make this
prayer in the strong, holy name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and our Lord.
Amen."
"Thou shalt not kill." Surely, this is the commandment we can jump over.
Perhaps we ought to move on to the next one or the next one, or back up and
consider some of the other ones, because, let's be realistic about it. I

dare say, there's not a large number of folks here this morning who've ever
gotten to the point that you really planned and desired to kill somebody.
Why, I would guess, in fact, there are not more than twelve or fifteen pro-
fessional hit men in this entire service. So, I don't know ...
