Matthew 6:19-24

I read a story this week of an HR manager who died and went to heaven where St. Peter was awaiting her arrival. Peter informed her that she was going to be given a choice b/w going to heaven or going to hell. Of course, she wanted heaven, but Peter insisted that she spend a day in each location before making a final choice. He then escorted her to an elevator for her day below. Much to her surprise, when the doors opened, hell wasn’t what she expected. She stepped off the elevator onto a beautiful golf course where everyone was well-dressed and having the time of their lives. She got to meet the devil over a delicious dinner and found him to be quite pleasant. Later that day, she headed back to the elevator and made her journey up. Of course, her time in heaven was more than we can imagine - streets of gold, songs of worship, beautiful mansions, and more. Then, at the end of the day, St. Pete asked her if she had decided. She replied, that while she loved heaven, she had a better time in hell - so Peter took her back to the elevator. Much to her surprise, when the doors reopened in hell, she found herself standing in a barren wasteland of heat, filth, and strange, horrifying noises. Confused, she asked the devil what changed - and he replied, ‘‘Earlier you were being recruited, now you’re experiencing reality.
