Living a Thankful Life
Collin Wimberly
Psalm 108:1
CIT - David commands the people of Israel to worship God through gratitude.
Proposition- Christians today should live lives of thanksgiving.
Purpose - I want to encourage people to thank God for all the many blessings they have received.
INTRODUCTION:
I found an interesting letter to the editor in the Nov. 2019 edition of the Elizabethton Star. The title is Americans are more ungrateful and unhappy than ever.
The writer lists many of the reasons why Americans should be thankful, but are not. Listen to this quote: Economists like Thomas Sowell say American poor are the envy of the poor of the rest of the world. Most people of the world eat the same thing every day and are glad to have it. World Vision reported that if you have clean water and a decent bathroom, you are richer than one-third of the world’s population. Millions of Hispanics made the dangerous journey to America to enjoy the riches, liberty and opportunity unprecedented in world history we take for granted. Human psychology is such, we aren’t made happy by what we acquire, but by what we are thankful for or appreciate. Americans are richer than kings were 200 years ago. Kings didn’t have air conditioning, telephones or as many choices of food and entertainment.
Yet, In spite of all that we have, so many Americans are ungrateful and unhappy.
Let’s make it even more personal this morning, as Christians should be the most thankful people on the planet. We have been blessed beyond measure. The Bible tells us we have forgiveness of sin, victory over sin, and that we have been blessed with every blessing in the heavenly realms. We are children of God with an eternal inheritance awaiting us, yet so many of us hardly ever express gratitude.
Instead, we grumble and complain.
Make no mistake about it, ingratitude is a sin. It has no place in our lives as believers. Living a thankful life is to live a happy life, a joyful life.
