Ephesians 2:1-3
In Psalm 51:5, David made one of the most declarative statements on the true condition of every single person born into this world. He said,
“Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.”

14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
17 For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one...
18 Therefore as by the offence of one [judgment came] upon all men to condemnation...
19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners...
21 That as sin hath reigned unto death...
Romans 7:14 also states that mankind is a slave to sin.
Romans 7:14

The most characteristic feature of sin in all its aspects is that it is directed against God. Any conception of sin, which does not have in the forefront the defiance that it offers to God, is a deviation from the biblical representation.
