The Most Wicked Man in the Bible (4 of 4)
Series: Skeletons in God’s Closet
Collin Wimberly
2 Chronicles 33:1-20
CIT: Manasseh, Israel’s most wicked king, repents and follows God.
PROPOSITION: Manasseh, the wicked king of Judah, reveals the grace of God to save even the most evil of men.
INTRODUCTION:
If I were to ask you who is the most evil person that you can think of, what would you say?
Osami Ben Laden?
Saddam Hussien?
Perhaps Hitler, or Stalin, or Jeffery Dahmer.
ILLUS: Charles Manson. Some of you might remember him. The Gothic rocker Marilyn Manson gets his name for him. He masterminded the murder of a large number of people, one which was a pregnant woman. I once watched an interview with him on television. His eyes were wild, they were like a bottomless pit of darkness, his hair was disheveled, he was demonic, he was as evil and as wicked a man as I have ever seen.
King Manasseh may very well be the most wicked man in the Bible. Next to him, even demonic mass murderers like Manson seem to pale.
However, Manasseh is a study in the grace of God. God took this evil, perverted, murderous king and turned his life around.
He can do the same for you. God’s desire for you this morning is that you experience personally the life-changing power of God’s grace.
Let’s take a look at the life of Manasseh, the most wicked man in the bible.
I) HIS CHARACTER-
King of Judah. His father was Hezekiah, a godly king and friend of the prophet Isaiah. He was apparently co-regent with Hezekiah, meaning his first 15 years he served as king alongside his aging father.
According to 2 Chronicles 29:2 Hezekiah did what was right in the eyes of the Lord.
He cleansed the temple of the idols of his father Ahaz, he restored the worship of worship of God in the temple. He even faced down the mighty Assyrian army by faith in almighty God.
Manasseh saw all this. He had grown up in the house of the Lord. As a boy he had heard the great Isaiah preach!
