Ruth 1-4

CIT: God sovereignty arranges the marriage of Ruth and Boaz,
PROPOSITION: Boaz and Ruth display the sovereignty and kindness of God in salvation.
INTRODCTION:
My favorite musical is ‘‘Fiddler on the Roof.’’ One of the most well-known songs is Lachiam or ‘‘To Life.’’ The chorus states ‘‘Life has a way of confusing us, blessing and bruising us.’’
That’s a true statement isn’t it. Life can be hard. Trouble and tragedy are most often completely unexpected and we find ourselves confused and bruised! But as believers we know that when God bruises us, he is also blessing us. Even when we can’t see it, or won’t accept it; God is kind and merciful. Ruth’s story is a wonderful example of that kindness.

The story of Ruth is short (only 85 verses), yet it is one of the great love stories of the Bible. In fact, it is one of the greatest love stories in written literature. Ruth and Boaz are truly a match made in heaven. Yet there is more to this than two people falling in love. In this story we find a wonderful picture of the love of God for a lost world. We find here an OT illustration of the love that Jesus Christ has for his bride, the Church.

Ruth is written much like a drama. Each chapter could is an Act in the as the story unfolds. This drama is true. Ruth and Boaz were real people, who really fell in love. People as real and you and I. In this drama, this match made in heaven, we find tragedy, sovereignty, salvation, and finally hope.

This is a story about kindness. The kindness of people and the kindness of God.
