Rahab - A Conspiracy of Divine Grace (1 of 4)
Series: Skeletons in God’s Closet

Matthew 1
Matthew 1:
Joshua 2
CIT - Rahab demonstrates her faith by harboring the Israelite spies.
INTRODUCTION:
Every family has some Skeletons in their closet. Some secrets, some people, that are embarrassing. The Black sheep of the family. Have you ever heard of the international black sheep society? By definition, the black sheep of the family means a family relative or family branch considered by the rest of the family as less desirable, immoral or disreputable. Originally it meant when a sheep was born with black wool, that wool couldn’t be used because it was difficult to dye, so a black sheep was undesirable.
Early in our marriage Gina and I would spend the long hours driving from Tx to La trying to decide who had the weirdest family. ( I do by the way!) It really gets interesting when you realize that we are the ones they probably talk about as weird!
For the next few weeks we are going to explore some of the black sheep of Jesus’ family, some of the Skeletons in God’s closet. Four people, three women, one man who seem to be anything but exemplary. In fact, some of them are downright wicked. Yet each of these four people will teach something about the character of God. In the life of Rahab we find the grace of God, in Ruth, the sovereignty of God, in Manasseh the saving power of God, and in Mary the miracle working power of God.
The first skeleton we pull out of God’s closet is Rahab. One of the most remarkable women in the Bible.
I) GRACE IS WHY CHOOSES US -
Context - Joshua sends two spies out. They have been assigned to study the land of Canaan, especially the great city of Jericho.
Jericho may be the oldest inhabited city on the planet. It was a strategic location. In order for Israel to conquer Canaan it must capture Jericho.
Vs. 1 - tells us that they were staying in the house of Rahab, a prostitute. This makes sense. ...
