The Poetry books of the Old Testament is comprised of five (5) books that deal with the spiritual life of the nation of Israel. While the Law dealt with Israel’s moral life, with the giving of the law and how to live appropriately, and the history books deals with the national develop-ment and life of Israel, the Poetry books brings those two aspects into perspective. Just as God is a trinity (Father, Son, Holy Spirit), and man is a trinity (Mind, Body, Soul), the Bible helps bridges the gap and helps us to be whole and complete.

Concerning the Poetical Books, noted Christian author Normal Geisler writes, ‘‘Whereas the foundation was laid for Christ in the Law and preparation was made for Christ in the books of History, the books of Poetry reveal the aspiration for Christ in the hearts of the people. They aspired to a life fulfilled in Christ in both an explicit and an implicit way, both consciously and unconsciously.’’ Here’s what he’s getting at; with respects to the Poetry Books:
• In the Book of Job, there is the aspiration for mediation BY Christ;
• In Psalms, there’s the aspiration for communion WITH Christ;
• In Proverbs, there’s the aspiration for wisdom IN Christ;
• In Ecclesiastes, there’s the aspiration for ultimate satisfaction because OF Christ; and,
• In Songs of Solomon, there’s the aspiration for union in love WITH Christ.

For the sake of time, I will not be able to deal with all of the Poetry books, but will focus on the books of Job and Psalms and in doing so, we want to see The Coming of the Christ!

In the Book of Job, we can see the suffering of its main character Job, and how what he went thru speaks to the life of Christ and His suffering for us.
