Hebrews 6:13-20
Open your bibles to Hebrews 6. Some years ago, it was announced a new, hydroelectric dam was going to be built across a large valley in New England. Obviously, once it was constructed and the valley was filled with water, it could no longer be inhabited, so the people who lived in that valley would have to be located. What was interesting was this. Once that announcement was made that the dam was going to be constructed and everyone would have to move, even before the construction began, that once pristine little town became an eyesore. People quit mowing their lawns. They stopped fixing their gutters that had broken or fences that had fallen down. They quit maintaining their homes or painting the front entrances of their business. The whole town fell into disrepair. Someone asked what the problem was. A resident of that little town answered it this way: Where there is no hope for the future, there is no work in the present.
Hope is one of the most powerful gifts God has given to His children. Biblical hope is the confident assurance that we have nothing to fear because the Almighty God of the Universe is with us, in us, and for us. This incredible God who has unlimited power, unlimited understanding, unlimited wisdom, and unlimited love who cannot be distracted and cannot be defeated is WITH you. He is IN you. And He is FOR you.
Psalm 62:5: ‘‘I find rest in God; only He gives me hope.’’ Hope in God allows you to rest in God in the midst of life’s trial and tribulations. Someone has said that Christians are hope addicts. People can go four days without food, four days without water, four minutes without air, but Christians can only go about four seconds without hope. Even when you are facing some of the roughest and toughest times of life, as long as you have hope that God has a plan, that He is in control, and that there is something better ahead, you can keep goi ...
