Open your bibles to Hebrews 10. This is the 25th message from the book of Hebrews. I don’t know if you are aware or not but taking the time to go thru entire books of the Bible is not typical of most churches anymore. Most choose to do shorter series more focused on certain topics. I don’t think that is wrong but let me give you two primary reasons why we have chosen the consistent practice of preaching through whole books for the bulk of our weekly teaching.

1. It’s for greater understanding of the entire bible and the big story of Scripture. There are 66 books within the cannon of Scripture, but there is one central theme that runs from beginning to end and that theme is how the perfectly holy and righteous Creator of this universe plans to rescue, redeem, and reconcile sinners to Himself through the life, death, and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. Every book within the Bible gives us an added layer of insight and perspective of the truth and depth of the Gospel. When you don’t go through books of the bible routinely, it’s much more difficult to see that and understand that.

2. The second reason we go through books of the bible verse by verse, is that if we don’t, there are verses and sections of Scripture we will willing and intentionally never get to. We will skip them or overlook them. Why? Because there are certain passages that are far more difficult to teach than others. There are also texts in Scripture that many people aren’t interested in hearing because they are extremely uncomfortable. Have you noticed? But when we go through books of the bible, verse by verse, chapter by chapter, we are forced to face them, and try to understand them. There is no skipping them or ignoring them. We, as pastors, are forced to teach them. And you, as listeners, are forced to hear them. And it’s good for both of us because we believe this whole book is ...
