Open your bibles to Hebrews 10. It cannot be argued that we live in the heart of Cardinal baseball country. There are thousands on top of thousands on top of thousands who absolutely love the St. Louis Cardinals. Right now, there may be no more beloved Cardinal player than Albert Pujols. I’ve got some great news: Albert is here with us today! Can you believe it? So, without further ado, I’d like to introduce to our Waypoint family, Mr. Albert Pujols. Make him feel welcome Waypoint! (picture on screen) Isn’t it great to have Albert with us today! He’s even bigger than I realized!

That was kind of mean, wasn’t it? How many of you had your heart start beating a little faster? I bet some of you who are online watching were wishing they were here in person, right? Everyone understands the difference between a picture and the real thing. A photograph is just a representation of a person or thing, but it can never replace the real thing.

Here’s the point. Over the past few weeks, we’ve been learning the difference between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant. The Old Covenant with all its rules and regulations, animal sacrifices, and ceremonial cleansings was only a PICTURE, and the New Covenant that Jesus brought is the REAL thing. Given a choice between seeing a picture of Albert Pujols or meeting him in person is a no-brainer. Nothing beats the real thing. That’s why the New Covenant is so much better than the Old Covenant.

Our text today, Hebrews 10:1-18, is essentially a summation of everything the author has been saying in the first nine chapters of Hebrews. You’ve probably noticed this as we’ve been making our way through this letter, but Hebrews is highly repetitive. The reason for that is this: Hebrews is a constant re-telling of a single theme with only slight variations along the way.

That theme, of course, is that Jesus is better! Jesus is superior ...
