‘‘Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths: But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne: Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.’’

We spend so much time trying to be ‘‘PC’’ or ‘‘Politically Correct’’ that people are not hearing and understanding what we’re really trying to say to one another. Personally, I try to select my words carefully because what I say can and will be used in various conversations and situations. For example, as I share the word of God through sermons, people hear them, and even find themselves in situations where they say, ‘‘Well, the pastor said...’’ and that becomes the basis for supporting their point of view. I’m thankful to God that He’s given me a heart and desire to share and tell the people of God the truth, so when I’m repeated, God is actually repeated and that’s the real blessing!

I’ve also discovered that in most cases, people can put it out there, but have a very hard time receiving it. What am I trying to say? People are quick to speak their minds, tell you how they feel about things, and even say things in such a way that they hurt others feelings, but when the tables are reversed, they can’t handle it! We should be able to talk and communicate with each other in a manner that is both loving and understandable. I believe the ‘‘golden rule’’ is in full effect here which simply says, ‘‘Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you!’’ Sometimes, the truth hurts, but it also has the pow ...
