Matthew 6:1-4
‘‘Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.’’
Matthew 6:1-4
As Christian, one of the main things we want to do is please God in all we do. We want Him to smile at us with respect to the words we speak, the deeds we do, and how we share His Son with others. I wonder what our report card would look like in certain areas of our lives? I read something one day that addresses the issue of our wanting to be obedient and pleasing unto God. It went like this...
‘‘Dear God,
So far today, I’ve done all right.
I haven’t gossiped, I haven’t lost my temper; I haven’t been greedy, grumpy, nasty, or self-centered. I’m really happy about that so far, Lord;
But in a few minutes... I’m going to be getting out of bed... And then I’m going to need a lot of help.
Thank you, Lord...
This person seems to focus on the fact that they’ve not done anything contrary to God’s word up to that point of the day and felt as though they were pleasing God with their actions. I think it’s important for us to know that God is pleased when we do what He’s commanded us to do, and blesses us for our actions.
Having said that I must ask a question...If God was to grade us on our giving, would we receive a satisfactory grade? I believe we are to be pleasing to God in all areas of our lives, and not just a select few, then how we give to God and His work is one of those areas.
