Matthew 7:13-14
‘‘Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.’’

Anybody who really knows me will tell you that I like options. The reason I like options is because I like to make informed decisions, especially about those things that will have a lasting effect or impact on my life. When I think about earthly decisions, I realized that I didn’t buy the first car I saw; I didn’t buy the first house I went into; I don’t normally by the first suit I see; nor do I buy the first shirt or shoes I come across. I make sure whatever it is I’m buying, I have some kind of knowledge as to what it is, who made it, and if it’s a major purchase, I make sure I get a warranty for the product!
Jesus is doing the same thing here in our text. He’s making it plain as to the choices that are out there, and give some idea as to what to expect when the decision is made. If you really take a look at what Jesus is saying here, it’s no different than what’s been shared throughout the Scriptures. In Deuteronomy 30:19, God said, ‘‘I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.’’ Joshua made a decision for himself and tried to get the children of Israel to do the same. In Joshua 24:14-15, he said, ‘‘Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the Lord. 15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other sid ...
