Our Ultimate Hope
Stephen Whitney
Titus 2:11-14
There are over 1800 verses in the Bible about the second coming of Jesus Christ. Believers are looking forward to his return. But today Jesus second coming is often forgotten of over looked.
1. The busyness of life.
It is easy to live as though this physical temporal world is all we have. We get up, eat, go to work, return home, eat again, watch TV and then go to bed. We do 100 different things each day in which our focus is only on this world, so it is easy to forget that
Jesus will one day return.
2. Misconceptions about heaven.
When it comes to heaven the pictures we see or imagine are of sitting on clouds and strumming harps. Some believe that heaven will be an unending worship service and they don’t want to do that forever and ever which seems boring.
3. ‘‘I’ve heard that before.’’
Back in the 1960’s and 70’s, eschatology became a hot topic.
Many churches emphasized the soon return of Jesus. Now many decades have passed and many believers have lost their excitement about the imminent return of Jesus after anticipating it for 50 years.
Believers are to remain focused on the hope of Christ’s return.

As Paul writes this letter to Titus in the 60’s, Jesus had died some 30 years earlier. His life and death were now part of history.
Salvation - Gk. deliverance from the punishment of sin.
Jesus took the punishment of our sins upon himself.
To be forgiven of our sins we must believe he died in our place.
God’s grace towards us is the cause and salvation is the effect.
For all people - anyone who believes that Jesus died for them.
