AVOIDING IDOLS
I Corinthians 10:14-22
Hope you have your Bibles open to I Corinthians, chapter number 10.
Tonight we're going to look at verse 14 through verse 22. I Corinthians
10:14-22. Let's bow for prayer as be begin.
Father, give to Thy word a sense of urgency tonight as it pierces those
calloused areas of our lives. We pray as we have so many times before.
Lord, you speak, let me get out of the way so that Thy word and Thy
message alone might be heard. For we make this prayer in the Holy name
of Jesus. Amen.
You know, it just seems logical that if we're exposed so much to good
things and to privileges and to blessings that come from God, that we
should just live wonderful lives. But we discovered this morninq that
simply is not true. Here was the Iraelites and the Corinthians who had
everything and yet we see their lives ended up in a mess in spite of all
the supernatural blessings of God. And we know this happens in your
life and in my life. God has been so good, so benevolent, so forgiving,
so gracious to us; and yet so many times we just turn away from Him and
we proceed to give other things, idolatrous things, first place.
What can become an idol to you? What can become an idol to me? Any-
thing in your life or in my life that would take the place that God
alone demands is an idol. It can be a wife or a husband. It can be a

child, it can be your children, it can be your family, it can be your
vocation, it can be a hobby, it can be any number of things. Now, I
have never heard anyone in my ministry to confess to me that they were
guilty of idolatry. We just don't think in these terms; yet I can
truthfully ...
