This series has brought up some really heavy issues and today is one of the heaviest. But why would we do a series on these topics? These are not necessarily inspiring me to live my best life. We are doing this series because these issues are the ones you actually face and because they affect your mind, your soul, your relationships in deep ways. You can’t just lifehack your way through anxiety, greed and shame. These issues can devestate your life if you allow them to overwhelm you. If left unchecked they can have serious consequences.
God cares deeply about you. He knows the struggles you face regarding these issues. He knows your deepest thoughts, the ones that are hiding in the depths of your heart. God knows the damage they can do to your soul and He wants you to know that He has created a way to overcome the worst issues you face in life. God knows all the skeletons in your closet and yet He still loves you!
This morning we are going to take a Biblical look at shame. What is shame, why do we feel shame, how does it affect us, and finally, how the power of the gospel can overcome shame in your life.
Let’s start by taking a look at when shame first reared its ugly head in the history of mankind.
Genesis 2. What Genesis 2? Isn’t that right after God created the first people Adam and Eve? Yes, basically, their first act was to do something shameful. Genesis 2 tells us that God made Adam and Eve in His image, and then in Genesis 2:25 it says, ‘‘And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

Shame is a little hard to define because it is basically a feeling. But let’s give it a try. I want to explain it in two ways realizing this doesn’t exhaust the meaning of shame but it gives us a starting point.
