Two Appointments You Won’t Miss

Hebrews 9:27-28
CIT - The author of Hebrews teaches that just as Christ died once for sins, people die once and then face judgment.
Proposition - You must be ready for the two most important and inevitable appointments you will ever have.
INTRODUCTION:
Have you ever missed an important appointment?
I have.
I have missed meetings, doctor’s appointments, staff meetings - you name it.
Did you know that missing appointments are becoming such an issue among many family practice doctors that many are considering charging a non-refundable deposit for each visit. One doctor actually wanted it reported chronic no shows reported as negative factors on a patient’s credit report.
ILLUS: Missing Gina’s final doctor visit with Micah. We had her on the way to the hospital.
Our passage this morning describes two appointments you will not miss.

Context - Chp. 9 great passage on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for our sins.
Vs. 27 and 28 contrast the certain death and judgment that a person without Christ must face, and the death and coming salvation that Jesus
Christ has provided.
If you are without Christ this morning - here are two appointments you will not miss.
I) DEATH -
Death is not a favorite subject of most people. However, it is one that we need to consider.
Psalm 90:12 - Teach us to number our days that we might gain a heart of Psalm 39:4 (ESV)
4 ‘‘O LORD, make me know my end
and what is the measure of my days;
let me know how fleeting I am!

A) THE CERTAINTY OF DEATH -
Let me start by saying there are exceptions.
Enoch and Elijah
Believers who are alive at the rapture.
1) Physical death - ‘‘The permanent cessation of vital functions.’’ Webster
The soul leaving the body -
Ps. 89:48 - What man can live and not see death?
To die once - This dismisses the idea of reincarnation.
