Proposition-God’s will for submissive Wives
Decision-Wives must submit to the headship of their husbands.
INTRODUCTION:
Family Series Introduction:
1) Never before in history has the family been under attack as it is today.
November 4 Propositon 8 in California will attempt to define marriage as only between a man and a woman. Folks, things have gotten bad when we have to pass a law to define marriage.
2) Never before has the church needed Paul’s message to the family more than we do now.
3) The Family is the first institution that God established.
4) The Family is defined by God, not by society or even by law.
This morning our passage defines the role and the responsibilities of the wife.

ILLUS: Several years back the SBC made a statement about the family, specifically on submission. The New York Times ran a front page article ‘‘Southern Baptists say wives must submit.’’ The doctrine of submission was portrayed as demeaning and oppressive to women. Feminists were in a uproar. Dr. Scott Shaver of FBC Nat. ‘‘If that is what it means to be a Southern Baptist, I don’t want to be one!
For many women submission is a problem. Granted it has been used against women in the past, even at times to hold them down. Yet the doctrine of submission is a biblical doctrine. It is part of God’s pattern for the family.
Submission is one of the keys to happiness in marriage.
This morning we find that submission, when rightly understood is a blessing to a wife, secondly we will see that it is powerful - not weak, and finally we will see the real beauty that wife displays when she obeys God and submits to the leadership of her husband.
