Ephesians 5:3-14


CIT - Paul commands the Ephesian believers to live a life radically different than the world.

INTRODUCTION:
ILLUS: Stubbing my toe in the dark. Even though I know my around the house well, the darkness always throws me off. Inevitably I will smash my toe against the wall!

It is interesting to notice that Ephesians contains a series of contrasts. In the 2nd chapter there was a contrast between life an death. He talks about what we once were and what we are now.
In the 4th chapter there is the contrast between the old man and the new man. The person we used to be before we met Christ as Lord and Savior was the old man, the new man is the person we are since we were born again.

Now in vs. 8 we find a contrast between darkness and light. You were in darkness, now you are light.
As believers in Christ Jesus we have stepped out of darkness and into the light, and it should show!

The book of Ephesians teaches us that salvation is a radical transformation that takes place when a person comes to know Christ as their Lord and Savior.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NASB95)
17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

Paul commands us to live a life radically different that the unbelieving world around us. In fact, he says that if you too closely resemble them in their sin and lifestyles, it’s a sure sign that you are not saved!

Paul tells us to avoid the darkness - the life of sin and rebellion. I believe that the Spirit of God will convict many of us about our lifestyle this morning. It’s time to repent and turn away from that stuff.
He also tells us to walk in the light - rather than stumbling around in the dark, be a reflection of the light of Christ Jesus.

I) AVOID THE DARKNESS -
Darkness describes the unconverted life. It describes their spiritual condition.
