I. Introduction
Hey, welcome to Mission Hills. So good to have you with us for week number two of our series, The End of the World as We Know It, A Message of Hope. Today, I want to talk to you about what matters most when it comes to end-times prophecy and teaching in the Bible.
It seems like almost everyone assumes what matters most is the answer to the question: when is it going to happen? That’s the question most people have. When the covid vaccine came out, a lot of people asked me: is this the mark of the beast? Are we in the end times? When Russia invaded the Ukraine, a lot of people asked me: is Putin the anti-Christ? Are we in the end times? And there have always been things that have made people wonder. There have always been thing that have made people go, ‘‘I think it might be now!’’
A few years ago there was a lot of interest in the Mayan calendar. Anybody remember that? I think we have a picture of it. Yeah...the Mayan calendar didn’t have any prophecy about the end of the world...it didn’t make any predictions...but it just ended in December of 2012 so I got a lot of emails from people asking if I thought this was it. And I said, ‘‘no, I don’t think so’’ and they said, ‘‘well, then why does the Mayan calendar end in 2012?’’ And I was like, ‘‘they carved it in rock. Maybe they just got tired!’’
Look, this has been going on for thousands of years. And everybody assumes that what matters most when it comes to end-times prophecy is when it will happen. But here’s the thing: Jesus to them: ‘‘It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by His own authority.’’ (Acts 1:7). Pay attention to that. He didn’t say, ‘‘you won’t know’’. He said, ‘‘It is not for you to know.’’ It’s above your paygrade, ok? So here’s the thing: when someone says ‘‘I know’’ what Jesus said ‘‘is not for you to know’’, then the only thing I know is that I don’t need t ...
