Genesis 29:1-35
Most people are familiar with the show AFV. Some of my favorites are the animal videos and the ones with kids. Occasionally, they show videos of weddings gone wrong and there are a lot of different things that can go wrong on the wedding day and in the ceremony itself.
• You can have the usual slips, trips, wardrobe malfunctions and dropping of rings.
• You can have the mess-ups by the officiating minister, the butchering of vows and the passing out of grooms, brides and attendants.
• You can have the uncooperative flower girls and ring bearers. I was at a wedding where the little ring-bearer ran across the stage and tackled the flower girl, gave her a kiss and disappeared under the communion table and had to be coaxed out with a sucker, like some kind of feral animal.
If you have an outside wedding, you have to contend with nature. The weather. Animals. I saw a clip recently of a beachside wedding where a massive wave came crashing over a sea wall and washed out the wedding party and guests.
Its hilarious...when it’s not your wedding! That day is supposed to be special. It is greeted with excitement and nervous anticipation. In addition, weddings demand a lot of time and money. The same was true of weddings in the Bible times as well.
Today, we will look at a wedding gone wrong. As we watch it unfold, be glad it’s not yours and no matter how much you may want to look away, you will not be able to. It is that much of a train wreck...not so much for AFV...more like something for Ripley’s believe it or not.
We are still tracing the story of Jacob in the book of Genesis. Jacob is on the run from his brother Esau who wants to murder him because Jacob manipulated him and swindled him out of the family birthright and blessing.
