THE I.R.S. MAN
Matthew 9:9-12
I trust you've already opened your Bibles to Matthew Chapter number
nine. Matthew nine, beginning with verse nine, I'll read through verse
13:
9 And as Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man,
called Matthew, sitting in the tax office; and He said to
him, "Follow me!" And he rose, and followed him.
10 And it happened that as He was reclining at the table
in the house, behold many tax-gatherers and sinners came and
were dining with Jesus, and His disciples.
11 And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to His
disciples, "Why is your Teacher eating with the tax-
gatherers and sinners?"
12 But when He heard this, He said, "It is not those who
are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick.
13 "But go and learn what this means, 'I DESTRE
COMPASSION, AND NOT SACRIFICE,' for I did not come to call
the righteous, but sinners."
Let's pray together. Father, we pray that you will still us and steady
us in the middle of this service so that truly we may have unusual
powers of spiritual concentration. Oh Lord, may we not just hear words
and go through all the activities and motions that we are accustomed to
in Your house. But given this hour a sense of divine reality so that
