Micah 5:1-15
Back in college when we found that mom had Lupus, she went from working full-time, trying part-time to just staying home. That was hard for mom. She likes to stay on the go. We thought she needed something to keep her occupied, so we all pitched in and bought her a Cocker Spaniel named Prissy.
Prissy was a larger Cocker Spaniel and could get quite hyper when she was young. She would get excited and go tearing through the house bouncing of things. She’d go berserk. It was hilarious. I was home from college and Prissy was all excited and started her shenanigans and before long was at top speed barreling from the living room into the den. She jumped up and tried to bank off the back of the rocker recliner mom was sitting in and when she hit the top of that recliner near mom’s head, mom, rocker, and cocker went backward.
The chair is laid over on its back, mom’s feet are in the air, the dog is sitting on her and when the chair fell backward it was somewhat wedged between two walls. Mom wanted to get up but she was between a rock, a hard place and a Cocker Spaniel. Luckily, we were there to witness it...and help.
Have you ever found yourself between a rock, a hard place, and a Cocker Spaniel? That’s where God’s people were...sort of. They were facing difficult days, a difficulty of their own making but difficult, nonetheless. Judgment was coming.
• They would soon face a massive Assyrian army who would lay siege to Jerusalem.
• They would eventually, in about 100 years, be taken into exile by the Babylonians.
• As with every generation, there were the deeply rooted spiritual needs of the nation.
Micah’s message has been one of impending judgment. The people were between a rock and a hard place. They had to be wondering where their help would come from or if help would come at all. In God’s warnings are opportunities. In God’s warnings there were also messages of hope.
