Gerri and I could tell you story after story of the faithfulness of God when it comes to stewardship. Let me tell you one.
We just read that we are to be ‘‘stewards of God’s mysteries.’’ We are to be stewards of the Word, stewards of the GOSPEL. And we all know we are also called to be stewards of our Finances.
To be a steward means to be the manager of another person’s property. Someone else owns it, but we manage it. God owns it all, we manage that portion that He gives us. We are called to be faithful and good stewards of all that God gives us.
The first premise in the principle of stewardship is that the LORD owns it all. He owns it all. He created all things. He created us and everything that we have, even the our bodies and the breath in our lungs is because He granted it to us from His abundant goodness. All the glory and honor belongs to Him.
Psalm 24:1 The earth is the LORD’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein.
Old Testament King David prayed an amazing prayer acknowledging this truth after the temple was built when he and all the officers of the temple gave in abundance all the gold and other precious materials used in the building of the temple:
1 Chronicles 29:10 David praised the LORD in the presence of the whole assembly, saying, ‘‘Praise be to you, LORD, the God of our father Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. 11 Yours, LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. 12 Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things.
