Introduction

Have you ever been all stressed out over a problem, or a need, and you did not know where to turn? Paul gives us some wonderful advice on what to do in trying circumstances! He is in prison, serving his first sentence just for preaching the Gospel of Christ! But He says that He has learned to take whatever life throws at him and trust God with the outcome!

Body:

8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Here is the key to keeping a great thought life! We have many temptations thrown at us daily, and the key is to think on good things, and not bad! This would be a great verse to put across the T.V. After naming true, honest, just, pure, lovely, good report, he says is there be any virtue! The word for virtue means,

From the same as G730; properly manliness (valor), that is, excellence (intrinsic or attributed): - praise, virtue.

Think on those things which are excellent and praise worthy. Anytime you think about Jesus, you are thinking about virtue, because He is virtuous! And then the passage says to think on praise, or we could say that we should be praising the Lord for His goodness and mercy to us! The word for ‘‘praise’’ means,

We could say that there is no one any more commendable than Jesus! What you think about is what you will eventually become! Your thoughts form your habits, and your habits form your life! That is why it is so important to think good, clean thoughts to help you live a good, clean life!
