The Gospel According to Proverbs: Stay on the Path
Brian Fletcher
Proverbs 30:1-5, Proverbs 4:10-15
Intro:
Have you ever been stuck in traffic? I mean parked on the interstate. And you just wish you could see what was causing the backup. If you only had a helicopter or a drone you could send ahead to tell you what in the world was going on.
Or wouldn’t it have even been better had you known before you got on the highway that there was an accident up ahead so that you could avoid it altogether?
Proverbs tells us in the most practical ways:
? How to stay on the right road
? How to avoid the traffic jams of life
? Which roads will get you to your destination the best way possible, maybe not the fastest, but the best.
? Proverbs gives us the guidance we need to stay on the right path.
Proverbs 30:1-5
The man declares, I am weary, O God;
I am weary, O God, and worn out.
2 Surely I am too stupid to be a man.
I have not the understanding of a man.
3 I have not learned wisdom,
nor have I knowledge of the Holy One.
4 Who has ascended to heaven and come down?
Who has gathered the wind in his fists?
Who has wrapped up the waters in a garment?
Who has established all the ends of the earth?
What is his name, and what is his son’s name?
Surely you know!
5 Every word of God proves true;
he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
Proverbs 4:10-15
Hear, my son, and accept my words,
that the years of your life may be many.
11 I have taught you the way of wisdom;
I have led you in the paths of uprightness.
12 When you walk, your step will not be hampered,
and if you run, you will not stumble.
13 Keep hold of instruction; do not let go;
guard her, for she is your life.
14 Do not enter the path of the wicked,
and do not walk in the way of the evil.
15 Avoid it; do not go on it;
turn away from it and pass on.
