Proverbs 18:24
A man of many companions may come to ruin,
but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
Proverbs 27:6,9
Faithful are the wounds of a friend;
profuse are the kisses of an enemy.
Oil and perfume make the heart glad,
and the sweetness of a friend comes from his earnest counsel.

A friend loves at all times,
and a brother is born for adversity.

The Biblical definition of the word friend is: someone dearly loved (prized) in a personal, intimate way; a trusted confidant, held dear in a close bond of personal affection.

The truth is we don’t have many friends that would stand up to this definition.
Gospel Friendships are: Faithful, Honest, and Loving
These are characteristics you want to look for in your friends but also who you want to be as a friend.
1. Gospel Friendships are Faithful
Proverbs 18:24
A man of many companions may come to ruin,
but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
‘‘Wait, closer than a brother?’’ Remember, Proverbs are pithy sayings, and general principles of wisdom. The proverb is opening our eyes to understand two things:
1. One is that your relationship with your brother/sister is connected by blood. There is a bond that is extremely close and intimate just by the mere fact that you are related in this way.
2. Secondly, while you and your brother/sister may have an unbelievable friendship and the definition above may characterize that relationship, you can also have friendships that are just as close, maybe even more intimate in some ways.
