John 17:24-26
A Sunday school teacher asked some 5-year-olds questions to help them realize that trusting in Jesus is the only way to get to heaven.
He asked, ‘‘If I sell everything I have and give the money to the church, would that get me into heaven?’’ ‘‘No,’’ they answered.
‘‘If I love my family and kind to animals and help other people
will that get me into heaven?’’ Another unanimous ‘‘No!’’
Then he asked, ‘‘What will get me into heaven?’’ One of
the little boys shouted, ‘‘You have to be dead.’’ That was
hardly the answer the teacher expected, but the boy was right.
Charles Spurgeon captured this truth in a sermon titled,
‘‘Why They Leave Us.’’ He pointed out that Jesus’ prayer here is answered every time a Christian dies. They leave their body and enter the presence of their Savior, where they behold his glory.
II Corinthians 5:8 KJB - We are confident, I say, and willing
to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.
M. Henry - ‘‘This shows clearly the happiness to be enjoyed
by the souls of believers when absent from the body,
and where Jesus makes known his glorious presence.’’

Father - Jesus has already used this personal name for God
four times in this prayer (:1,5,11,21) and now as he closes
his prayer he uses it two more times.
In using this personal name, he reveals his dependance upon
God to fulfill the requests which he has made for those who
believe he is the promised Messiah who came to be their Savior.
Desire (KJB will) - Gk. to determine or purpose.
It is used of us praying to ask God for something.
15:7 Ask whatever you wish and it will be done for you.
They also - includes all who would believe in Christ as their Savior, not just the eleven disciples who believed in him then.
You have given me - it is God the Father who chooses us and when we respond in faith to Christ, we then belong to ...
