Series Summary: This is an expository sermon series through I Peter. Jesus gave to Peter the ‘‘Keys of the Kingdom’’ (Matthew 16:19). ‘‘Keys’’ will be the uniting theme for the series.

Sermon Summary: This sermon explores the hope that we have resulting from our new birth. It is a 1) Confident hope, 2) Living Hope, 3) Enduring hope, 4) Secure Hope and 5) Anticipated Hope.

INTRODUCTION: As we continue in our ‘‘Keys of the Kingdom’’ sermon series today we turn our attention to the ‘‘Hope Key.’’ Hope is important.

From ‘‘Man’s Search for Meaning’’ Viktor Frankl’s autobiographic testament to his time in Auschwitz: ‘‘Those who know how close the connection is between the state of mind of a man, his courage and hope, or LACK of them and the state of immunity of his body will understand that sudden loss of hope and courage can have a DEADLY effect.’’ To illustrate his point Frankl details his theory on the record high death rate in Auschwitz during Christmas 1944 to New Year’s 1945: that prisoners died because they had expected to be home before Christmas. When they realized this was not to be they completely lost hope in life beyond the concentration camp. This business of hope can be important.

Fortunately for us, God offers us a hope that is more sustaining and certain than liberation from a concentration camp...although it is related. How is your hope-quotient this morning? Is it full, or is it LESS than full? Are you hopeFULL or hopeLESS? In the areas we are going to talk about today, you are entitled to be hopeFULL. And because these areas are ULTIMATE areas and not SECONDARY areas - this is the KIND of hope that makes the most difference to our lives.
