17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 19 Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

In the first and second century AD there was a church leader named Marcion. He was born right as all of the first disciples of Jesus were dying, but he was discipled by Followers of the first followers… So, the disciples of Paul, guys like Timothy, discipled Marcion…
Now you may have heard as I have from pastors or church leaders that the early church didn’t have the Bible, they just gave witness to the resurrection. And if you have heard this, that’s just not true. Now the earliest church didn’t have the completed New Testament, it was of course still being developed, but from the earliest days of Christian worship teaching from the Bible was central and primary… But what that looked like in the earliest days was teaching from the Hebrew Scriptures what we call the Old Testament, and these new Christians would gather and would talk about how Jesus was the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets, they talked about how Jesus resolved the tension in the Old Testament, and they could understand what God was doing in Christ and what it meant to be the New Covenant people of God by understanding the Old Testament and what God had been doing through ...
