INTRODUCTION:
This morning we will conclude our sermon on why the church is so important by concluding the passage we began last week and by observing the Lord’s supper together.
Last week in our passage, we found 3 reasons why the Church is so important.
1) Because of the Price that was paid for the Church.
2) Because of the revelation of the mystery of the Church
3) Because of the Mission of the Church.
Now we come to the final reason because of the privilege of the Church.
I) THE CHURCH IS SO IMPORTANT IS BECAUSE OF THE PRIVILEGES OF THE CHURCH - VS. 11-12
A) Confidence toward God - Confidence to approach God. Confidence to enter into the very throne room of God through Christ Jesus. Isn’t that amazing! Sinful creatures like you and I can come before a Holy God and find grace and help in times of need.
In the Bible the throne of God is pictured as an awesome and fearful place. Describe Isaiah 6 - The great prophet of God could not boldly rush up to this throne. No. He cried out Woe is me, for I am a man of unclean lips. He was so stunned by the holiness of God, that all he could see was his own impurities.
In their NT, in Revelation 1, the Apostle John sees Jesus. He is so overcome by his majesty, power and holiness that he falls down like a dead man.
Yet, Vs. 12 states that we can approach Him bodily. With confidence.
Hebrews 4:12 - Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace in our time of need.
How?
‘‘Through Him and through faith in Him.’’ Through Jesus.
Hebrews 10:19 ‘‘Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us throughly the curtain, that is through his flesh.
