Ephesians 4:7-16
CIT: The place and purpose of gifts in the body of Christ.
PROPOSITION: Every member must find their place in ministry.
INTRODUCTION:
ILLUS: watchIng the NFL draft this weekend. Teams picked players they needed. Every team is made up of people who have different strengths and weaknesses. You need some of every kind of player.
When I was in high school by Coach Jones sent me in to make a guy foul me. At the time I was big and clumsy and very physical on the court. I was good at making people mad! It worked. After about 2 minutes I fouled the guy I was guarding and he fouled me back. Double foul. Did my job. The coach shook my hand as I walked off the court.
What is your place on the team at New Life?
In Chp. 3:2 Paul talks of the dispensation or the stewardship of Grace that had been given to him to preach the gospel to the gentiles. His desire was to be found faithful in that stewardship. To faithfully complete the task that God had given Him. To faithfully use his abilities to the fullest for the work of the Kingdom.
Are you being a faithful steward of the talents and abilities that God has given you?
In this passage, we will find several principles about the place God has for you in ministry.
I) THE DISTRIBUTION OF SPIRITUAL GIFTS-VS.7
But to each one of us-Who is Paul referring to? Believers. The context demands this. Vs. 4. Those who share One Lord, One faith, one baptism, One God and Father of us all.
The Holy Spirit gives each of us a measure of grace. A special gift or spiritual talent to be used for the work of the kingdom.
A) THEY ARE SPIRITUAL ABILITIES -
I Corinthians 12:4 The word for gift is the word from which we get charismatic. It is the Greek word, Koris. A spiritual gift is not a natural ability or a natural talent. A gift is something that the Holy Spirit sovereignty grants to a believer. ILLUS: A person cannot say that baking pies is ...
