Intro/Attention
Last week, we began a series called Family Foundations. Over the next few weeks, we’ll talk about marriage, parenting, and how to strengthen your family with principles from the Word of God. Today, I want you to find Psalm 89 in your Bible. We will cover most of this psalm to give you the proper context but then we will zoom in on verse 14 specifically. But to get the main idea, let’s read verses 11-18 together. READ TEXT
*Stephanie and I are doing a small remodel project at our home. Our kids kept getting bigger and bigger and we felt like we needed more space. So, we enclosed our back porch and knocked out some walls to open things up a bit. But I decided that while we were doing this project, I really wanted a fireplace. Not a gas fireplace or one of those electric fireplaces. But a real brick fireplace that you burn real logs in with real fire. I had no idea how big a project that was going to be. To me, you just cut a hole in the wall and put some bricks up and you’re good to go. You’ll be burning logs in no time. Well, I learned very quickly from some very smart framers and builders that you can’t just put tons of bricks on nothing. You have to pour a footer. Do you know what a footer is? I thought I did. But this was the biggest footer I have ever seen in my life. We had to dig down several feet next to my house. And then dig a huge rectangular hole. It looked like we were about to drop a casket in there it was so big! Then, we filled the whole thing up with concrete. All that so I could have an exterior brick fireplace that goes about 30 feet high right next to my house. And let me tell you something; that fireplace ain’t going anywerhe! It’s built to last.*
I learned something very important with this project. The foundation matters. If you want to go far, if you want to build high, you’re going to have to dig deep first. That’s a gr ...
