We’re in a series on Sunday mornings called Family Foundations. The Bible gives us the foundation we need for our families. Today, from Ezekiel 22:30, I’m preaching on this sermon subject, Wanted: One Godly Man. Here’s the situation: God’s people had turned their back on the Lord and began worshipping idols. They were no longer keeping the sabbath or following the Lord. They made alliances with foreign nations who didn’t know the Lord. God speaks to His people through the prophet Ezekiel and asks if anyone will stand for the Lord in the midst of this wicket society. Sadly, God found no one who would stand. READ TEXT
*Today is Father’s Day! It’s a day we celebrate our dads. And I thought that one of the best ways to celebrate dad on this day was to tell some of my favorite ‘‘dad jokes.’’ Don’t you just love dad jokes? These are jokes dads tell that are corny and may a little cringy. But we tell these jokes for two reasons. First, we want to make our kids laugh. And second, we want to embarrass our kids as much as possible. I thought about bringing all five of my kids on stage for these jokes but I still want them to love me after today. So, I’m not going to do that. You can just feel the collective embarrassment with them as I tell these jokes. First, when does a joke become a dad joke? When it becomes apparent. Get it, a-parent? Next, why did the scarecrow when an award? Because he was outstanding in his field. Here’s another one, where do you learn to make a banana split? Sundae school. And, why do bald men have so much fun in the summer? Because it’s their time to shine. Here’s one I learned at youth camp, what do you call a grandfather riding a bicycle? Papa Wheelie! And for the finale, why does Norway have barcodes on their battleships? So, when they get back to port, they can Scandinavian. I knew you guys would love my jokes today. If you can’t have ...
