The Most Unused Word in the Church

At our house, Deb and mine, we have some words that are off-limits for use. I won’t bore you with all those words, but I will tell you that we have a ‘‘S’’ word, that I prefer never to be used. You have already said in your mind, ‘‘That’s good, no one should use that word.’’ And you said that because ‘you think’ you know what it is. My ‘‘S’’ word is shopping, (Father forgive me for my language.) Now, most of the men in here would want to say, ‘‘AMEN’’, but they know they have to go home with the one who does this ‘‘S’’ word. I’m having a little fun with you (mostly). But isn’t it interesting how there are some words we don’t use?(my fun)
Having been in the Lord’s work for many years, I would like us to think about ONE WORD, (TITLE). It is a word that follows most of us wherever we go. It’s a word we enjoy, cherish, but inside the church buildings - we rarely speak of it. What is that word? Excitement screen (others)
Some will say, ‘‘Whoa preacher, that’s not really one our words.’’ See, I get it, understand, see your position, I was raised like that, just don’t agree with it. EVERY PERSON in this room LOVES excitement and LOVES to be excited and LOVES things to the exciting. The questions today are:
What are those things that excites you?
What are those things which you love to be excited about?
What is it that sends you over the top?
Let me challenge us. The answer to those questions may reveal the answer to another one: ‘‘Are you walking in the flesh or the Spirit?’’ Before we look into God’s word to seek our source of ‘true excitement’, I want to build the case about our excitement factor. First consider this. A couple of dictionaries define excitement like this:
