1. In 1999, Time Magazine conducted a poll on its web
page of the top twenty events of the century. The
question was asked: "If you had to choose the most
important event of the 20th century, which would it
be?" Although it was not a scientific poll, I found
the nominees interesting. Let me just share with you
the top ten. According to those who responded to the
poll, the ten most important events of the 20th
century were:
#10: Theory of relativity presented (1916)
#9: Model T Ford introduced (1908)
#8: Internet created (1969)
#7: Invention of the microchip (1958)
#6: The Holocaust (1933-1945)
#5: U.S. civil rights movement (1964)
#4: World War II (1939)
#3: Ghandi opposes Britain with civil disobedience
(1915)
#2: First landing on the moon (1969).

2. And what do you think was the most important event
of the 20th century? You may be surprised to learn
that of the people who responded to the poll, the
number one event of the 20th century was: "Elvis
teaches American teens to rock 'n' roll."1

3. I thought about the question, and I'm not sure what
I would consider the most important event of the 20th
century. But you can be certain that it would not be
Elvis teaching teens to rock 'n' roll. However, I
don't have to think very hard about what I think will
be most important event in the 21st century. I have no
doubt that the most important event in the century
before us is the return of the Lord Jesus Christ.
