2 Kings 13:14-21
There are a lot of things we could say about the USA this morning ... But this morning let me remind you America has often been called THE LAND OF OPPORTUNITY.
You might remember the move Rocky ... when Apollo Creed gives a no name fighter an opportunity at the championship belt. When Rocky is told he has been chosen he is asked ... ‘‘Do you believe America is the land of opportunity?’’
In a lot of ways it really is. - Think about it ... we have 50 states ... you don’t like the opportunity in one you got 49 other choices while still being in America and its constitution.
People have come here seeking the opportunity of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
The freedoms recognized here ... are a tremendous OPPORTUNITY.
ILLUS. - I mentioned Kristi and I had done some looking into family histories. Most of what I could find on my family if correct takes their roots all the back in this country to the pre-Revolutionary era. I found some folks in the family tree, if correct, who fought in the Revolutionary War. - Kristi has one part of her family like that ... and another she’s also got great grandparents who were first generation Americans. They came here from places like Italy and Scandanavia. - I can’t ask them ... but I’m guessing they came for ... opportunity.
Opportunity is interesting isn’t it. You can seize it or you can miss it.
TODAY we are going to finish our series on Elisha. Today’s story is a reminder for us to boldly live by faith, to boldly walk in obedience ... to pursue God’s best for us ... and not miss out on the opportunities He give us.
2 Kings 13:14-21 - 14 Now when Elisha had fallen sick with the illness of which he was to die, Joash king of Israel went down to him and wept before him, crying, ‘‘My father, my father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!’’
We have fast forwarded to the end of Elisha’s life. - He is sick ...
