John 11
John chapter 11 is one of the most stunning passages in the Bible. The apostle John recounts the story of one of Jesus’ friends Lazarus dying, being placed in a grave, and then being raised to life. When Jesus gets to Lazarus’ house his sisters, Mary and Martha are frustrated, confused, and grieving their brother's death. They are frustrated and confused because they had witnessed firsthand Jesus healing other people and yet Jesus was not there to heal their brother. Martha wants to know why and Jesus responds with these words,
“I am the resurrection and life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
Martha responds, “Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world.”
Jesus weeps at the tomb of Lazarus and then He calls him out of the tomb even though Lazarus had been dead for four days. At the sound of his name, Lazarus is raised to life and walks out of the tomb still wrapped in his grave clothes.
Can you imagine being there that day? Hearing the voice of Jesus call Lazarus out of the tomb, and then seeing him with your own eyes walk out? A man who was fully dead only minutes ago, is now fully alive. You would never forget that moment. Every day for the rest of your life you would wake up and remember that day when Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. And I doubt you would just keep it to yourself either, you are going to tell everyone you know, what you heard and saw.
While there are so many things going on in this passage I want to point out just a couple, especially as they relate to Pam.
We have to remember that Jesus raised people from the dead in order to have a relationship with them.
Did you know that Jesus actually raised Lazarus from the dead twice? The first time was when Jesus called Lazarus to leave his life of sin and t ...
