2 Samuel 13:1-15:29
Introduction
To let you see a little bit behind the scenes, most Sundays our worship team has quite the breakfast spread back there to eat. Sundays are often long mornings from 7-12:30 and most of our team doesn’t eat before they come because it’s so early, and so, often, Teri Goodwin and her husband provide some delicious food to snack on throughout the morning. And, boy, let me tell you, some of our band members can eat! I watch some of the younger guys just go to town back there and it makes me quite resentful.
I used to be able to eat like that. I mean in college I’d go to McDonalds and get three double cheeseburgers for $3.23 and be set for a few hours until we’d go make a Taco Bell run for a snack, and then top it off with a local pizza deal where three of us could share three medium pizzas for $10. Ah, the good old days! But I just can eat like that anymore. I can’t sit down with a carton of Edy’s ice cream and just eat as much as I want. Nowadays I just drive by Taco Bell and put on three pounds. I’ve had to cut a lot of stuff I used to enjoy completely out of my diet.
For example McDonalds. When we moved to Warrensburg almost five years ago I decided to completely cut McDonalds out of my diet and for two years I didn’t touch it. But then toward the beginning of the pandemic I was out running and errand when driving past McDonalds I just found myself tempted and thought, ‘Oh, well just one time isn’t going to hurt,’ but, boy, was I wrong. Only a McDouble and fries later and I was sprawled out on the floor of my office thinking I was going to die. I felt not just sick, but more like my body was shutting down. I tried to get up and do some work and I couldn’t function; I couldn’t think. I was essentially useless and invalid for the rest of the day and even the next morning when I woke up. One simple action that affected my whole body for 36 hours.
